Monitored Alarm Systems installed in homes, shops and businesses are being ‘blocked’ by organized crime gangs using electronic devices. The devices known as GSM jammers, emit a powerful signal that blocks intruder alerts sent by alarm systems to monitoring stations.

 

One jamming device recently seized by Gardaí was capable of blocking all phone, text and data traffic in an entire housing estate

 

‘Jamming devices could be defeated by alarm systems that rely on radio signals, rather than GSM, to communicate with monitoring stations’
